  1. You have support for all of the following motherboard

    P9X79 Deluxe

    P9X79-E WS

    P9X79 Pro

    P9X79 WS

But does this also support P9X79 LE? I mean its in the same line of motherboard, but will it still work?

  2. Hey Andrew – looks like your email’s down. Let me know if you’re still available to help.

  3. Hi I’ve tried sorting this out myself but I’m stuck and could use your help if you have a second. I apologize for all the questions and will be happy to donate what I can for your help…
So I tried to install Yosemite using your clover method. Followed instructions exactly as defined in the document. I can not get the clover screen to choose a boot drive to come up. The machine starts up and I get the Gigabyte Splash screen and then when it goes to boot from the USB stick it accesses the usb stick for a few seconds and then all I get is a black screen with one thin line of pixels of garbage at the top of the screen. I tried 2 different grfx cards (GTX480 and GTX780) and it does the same thing with both.
I am able to boot and install Yosemite and it works fine if I use Unibeast and Multibeast for some reason. The problem there is that I can get it to boot with my GTX480 (in the first slot) but it will not fully recognize my GTX780 in the 2nd 16x slot. It sees it but it shows up as 1mb vram. I’m guessing I need some sort of SSDT or DSDT injection to get both cards to work (since the GTX480 requires the graphics enabler and the GTX780 does not). Or am I trying to do something that will never work since the 480 and 780 are different architectures?
One last question… I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around the difference between DSDT and SSDT… Is it possible to do injection via SSDT instead of DSDT? I noticed your SSDT in the DMG file for x79-up4 has the PCI0 section with the nvidia (using the nvidia version of course) injection in there. I’m assuming the injection you put in is a “template” for where the actual information for a specific card should go? I can use the injection information in the nvidia injection section of your website to fill in the template?
Thanks again for your help. I’m sure to you this is all old hat by now. I hate asking for help. It makes me feel stupid.

    • What BIOS Version is installed on the System? Make sure it is the latest Version.

Also are you booting to the UEFI Version of the USB and made the Proper BIOS changes?

      • BIOS is F7 updated yesterday from F5. I thought that might be the problem.

I tried the BIOS in all modes: Legacy Only, UEFI Only, Legacy and UEFI. I tried selecting both UEFI boot option for USB stick and Regular boot option in the F12 select boot disk menu.

In all cases same thing… USB stick flashes the led a couple of times and then I get a black screen with one line of pixel garbage. No Boot loader screen.

  4. I get the following every time I try to send. Any ideas?:

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

    Technical details of permanent failure:
Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain by [2001:4b98:c:521::6].

  5. Hi,

I had no major problems to get to the installer screen.
But when I reboot, I still need the USB-key…
I always have to go around the clover boot screen, selecting my HD and reboot with my boot flags.

    Did I miss something?

  6. Hi,

I still have the same problem with rebooting.
He won’t boot from my HD. Still asking for the USB key…

  7. I just wanted to say thank you, I finally got mostly everything working (except onboard bluetooth and front panel USB and USB3). I am running:
    Asus Rampage IV Extreme
i7 4930K OC 4.5GHz (does not step down to 1.5)
    MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G
Gskill Trident 16GB (running at 1333 for some reason)
    Corsair H110 Watercooling

So far I’ve had no issues and scored well in Geekbench (22622 Multicore)

I’ve tried moving my USB plug to a different slot but nothing I do seems to get the front panel USB working and my USB3 is not working either.

  8. I hope this is my last comment…

After the build, installation and post installation my Hackintosh is running.
But after I do a Geekbench I see that I’m just using 1 core instead of 6.
When I open my BIOS when starting up, I see all 6 cores running?
Is there way to fix this…

    Intel core i7-4930k, 3.4 GHz
    Running Mavericks

  9. Hello, i am following step by step your guide and i find the next:

    Section 4: step 4.9:

There is no SSDT-1 folder for the i7 4820k.

    So what to do?

I’m gonna try to leave this step and see if it works.

    • Make one via my guide and then send it to me and I can add it to the DMG.

      • Well, actually i ignored that step and i think its not working because of that.

When i try to load just from the disk installation it get stuck with a forbidden sign (like ghostbuster but in white)

Now I try with the DSDT scrip extractor but it just open the text editor..
But i tried witht he option 2 (mountin EFI) and in the folder:

I got nothing there… but in:

        I got the DSDT.aml

Now i’m boting up with the USB isntaller with the common comands.

I think i just need some steps more to get this working…

        Thanks for the help.

  10. HEllo, Got every thing working on my Gigabyte X79-UD5 f13 10.10.1 Except …. When it wakes up form sleep, all the usb ports stop working. Mouse, keyboard. cant tell if it froze. I do see a message about removing a mass storage device that seems to appear rather nicely.

What do you thing the issue is ?

  11. Hello Andrew,

Today I finally decided to reinstall from scratch my machine to upgrade to Yosemite because I’ve some troubles with my Titan black on Mavericks.
I think I have followed correctly your guide but just after installing kexts, SSDT & SSDT-1, the system crash at startup (Even if I boot from usb stick). Before that everything seems working well.
Please see what happens when it crash :
Looks like a graphic issue, because most of the lines are not visible…
I’ve tried 3 times and each time, the issue appear at the reboot after installing kexts.

    Config :
    – 10.10 and Clover 2.3K_r3156
    – 4930k
    – X79 Deluxe
    – GTX Titan Black
    – SSD Boot disk (partition)
    – 32GB Ram

I’ve tried to boot with -x but the system won’t start. I’ve already verify I’ve took the correct kext file from the dmg, into the “standard Kexts” folder.

Any idea to help me ?

    • Boot with:

Post install install the retail drivers.

      • Hi,

I already boot with this flag. I’ve also tried to install NVidia drivers before installing kexts, and same issue, the reboot after webdrivers installation is ok but, when I reboot after installing kexts, the system crash.

        • Please follow the set instructions in the READ ME on the DMG and do not do anything else. If you do not follow the set instructions you will have issues. The READ ME is there for you to follow. Doing what you are doing will end up with a broken System. You Need to complete Post Install before doing anything else.

  12. EDIT*
I’ve made another test. The system boots fine until I install the FakeSMC.kext
    I’ve tried this order :
    – Install OSX : ok > reboot
    – Install NVidia web drivers : ok > reboot
    – Install 3 from 4 kexts (All except FakeSMC) : ok > reboot
    – Install FakeSMC.kext : system crash at reboot

    • That GPU has no issues with the FakeSMC on the DMG as I have used it with the Titan Black many times. Sounds to me as something was missed post install causing the issue we see here.

      • Ok I finally found my mistake. I still have the “cpus=1” into the clover config as before. Now the system boot perfectly, I’ve re-installed from scratch to disable any other previous issue.
The post install with the X79.dmg is perfectly clean now, I get sound, speed boot, etc.

I’ve now a strange issue after installing Nvidia web drivers. After the installation, when the system is started up, I’ve got now my dual monitors working well and I can see drivers are loaded but each time, one minute after osx is up, fans are getting very very high and crazy ! I was so scared so I shutdown manually my machine. I assume this issue appears only when I disable the flag nv_disable=1

  13. Hello every one ! Theres alot of great advice here, thank you all. Ive read most of the pages here over the last few days but not seeing my issues persay.

When I wake my system up from deep sleep ( after a few hours ) My USB ports stop working. Mouse / Keyboard
It would happen all the time until I disabled USB3 on the motherboard. Now every once in awhile or after deep sleep. Only way to get them to work is a Hard reset.

Any help would be most greatful !!!! Ive been trying to get this build to a 100% for 3 weeks now.

  14. Even tho I have all USB 3.0 settings are disabled on the motherboard ? Do you know others that have had this issue and what they did to remedy it?

  15. I followed instructions to the letter on Sabertooth x79 3930k system, Nvidia GTX 680 4gb. Trying to install 10.9.3, and was able to complete the install.

BUT — I went through all the post-install instructions on the dmg through step 4, but when I restart the system hangs with panic / error:

    “panic(cpu 1 caller 0xfffff…. etc. etc…

Kernel Extensions in backtrace: etc… etc…

    System uptime in nanoseconds: 908…”

Did two clean installs and still having this issue. Any help?

  16. After updating bios to latest, installed worked fine! 🙂

Now the only problem appears to be audio / Step 5 of post-install.

The audio_RealtekALC-master Folder does NOT contain “audio_realtekALC-90_v2.command: — INSTEAD I only see “audio_alc_9series-hda-93_patch.command”

I’m on 10.9.3 — and I only have the option of “Virtual Audio Device” but cannot get any audio from it. Thanks!

  17. Thanks for responding. I did run the instructions in the DMG to the letter.

As I said earlier, the audio_RealtekALC-master Folder does NOT contain “audio_realtekALC-90_v2.command”: — INSTEAD I only see “audio_alc_9series-hda-93_patch.command” So I ran that, but no luck.

  18. Hmm… the nVidia SSDT on this one, doesn’t like my GTX760’s analogue (VGA) output on the DVI port, but it does work with the HDMI port together with the digital DVI.
I’m looking to get the VGA functionality back, should I restore the older SSDT (from ~2014/12/24) back, or is there a quick way to edit/modify the SSDT to enable the analogue on the DVI again?
It worked before using 10.9.2, but I’ve today updated to 10.9.5.

  19. Andrew,

Thanks for all your very detailed guides here! I’m attempting to rebuild an existing Hackintosh after having problems installing dual video cards using Chameleon and another developer’s rather cartoonish post-install software…

I have an ASUS RIVF board (BIOS 9003) with a 3930K processor and two GTX680s. I followed your MacOSX installation guide for 10.9 with no problems except that when I disabled CSM in the BIOS and restarted, nothing appeared on my screen; the monitor displayed “no signal”. Switching CSM to “auto” allowed me to continue with booting from the USB flash and installing OSX on a Samsung SSD.

I proceeded with the X79 DMG guide and followed all the steps precisely, but my machine KPs when booting from the SSD. Just to be sure I didn’t miss something, I reinstalled OSX from the USB and went through the whole X79 DMG process a second time; still kernel panics.

If having CSM disabled is critical, I need help figuring out why I don’t have an image when I boot that way. The GPU is connected to my monitor by DVI.

Thanks in advance for your help!

    • UPDATE:

With the intense noob-like trepidation, I updated my BIOS to the latest version (5001) and lo, and behold! my OSX suddenly boots from the SSD. No additional boot flags required and now I have two GPUs installed and working!

Oddly, however, I still cannot get a video signal if I disable CSM. I left it on “Auto” and everything seems to be working. Today I proceeded to install an Areca RAID card, an ATTO 10GbE card, and most of my software.

Thanks, Andrew, for the wealth of information posted on this blog!

    • Your GPUS do not have a UEFI BIOS so you have to leave CSM enabled but boot to the UEFI version of the USB Installer and HDD/SSD.

  20. Hi,

will this work with my current set up:

    E5 1620
    EVGA X79 FTW
    EVGA GTX670 4gig DDR3
    CORSAIR Vengeance 16gig DDR3 1600

    thanks in advance

  21. Got through the install fine. I have to boot with cpus=1 or I get a kernel panic. I tried installing voodootscsync but that didn’t help. I have a 4930k on a R4E. Any ideas?

    • Make sure you are on the latest BIOS.

Sounds like you did not install using my guide and did not properly perform Post Install based on what you said. Wipe the install and properly install using my guide and properly perform post install. Do not skip or change anything.

  22. Hi
I can’t find the model of my cpu(4820k), following the step 4. Could you explain, where I can find it, please? Thank you.

(P.S. I apologize for offtop there. A lot of pages from your site are opened) 😉

  23. Hi, i have my CPU overclocked to 4.4ghz with multiplier 37x and and BCLK frequency 121.0 mhz. Using your SSDT with you CPUPM kext, my multiplier stays at 37 and the CPU runs always with max frequency. Any sugestion?

    My specs
    I7 3820
    Asus P9x79 LE
    gigabyte R9 280x (crossfire)
    kingston hyperx 8gb 1600mhz

  24. I’m user of your x79 over 1 year. I always used it with multiplier 42x and BLCK 100.00 and it works. Even with SSDT for Asus p9x79 it works. Now that I changed to multiplier 37x and BLCK 121.00 for more OC, It doesn’t work.

  25. Hello everyone,

I got a problem with the dmg post install. Everything worked out till I came to the step 4 in the read me: It says that I have to skip to 4.9 because of my cpu (4820K) – so I did. But the next step would be to copy the SSDT-1 file, but I don’t see the folder named 4820. So what should I do next?

My system: 4820K, Asus X79 Sabertooth, NVidia Geforce 9800 GT

  26. Hi Andrew,

I see a limited list of EVGA boards here, do you think this rig will work with Yosemite? –
    – EVGA x79 Dark
    – E5-1260v2 or i7-3820
    – 16GB Corsair 1600 ddr3
    – Sapphire 7970 3GB DDR5

Thanks for this very informative blog!

  27. I have GA- X79S – up5 -WIFI with Core i7 3820 and would like to know, how configurate my hackintosh for iMessage and FaceTime use. I have webcam Logitec C270 and is recognized on my hackintosh , but none work. My hackintosh no shutdown and restart . I using Mavericks 10.9.1

  28. Hello Andrew. I have no USB post install on P9X79-E WS (BIOS v.1602), i4930k, Asus GTX670 2GB, 64GB G.Skill RAM, OS 10.8.5 (needed for Pro Tools HD 10 compatibility).

I get to the login window with no USB support. Single user mode shows: AppleUSBEHCI :: UIMInitialize – Error occured and …could not get chip to come out of reset within 100ms.

The boot flags which get me to login are:
    npci=0x2000 -v nv_disable=1

After a while the screensaver comes on and the graphics look jerky but as far as I understand that will be fixed with the intall of NVDIA retail drivers.

I tried the following on top of the above and in permutations:
    -x npci=0x3000 GraphicsEnabler=Yes/No USBBusFix=Yes UHCIreset=Yes EHCIaquire=Yes EHCIhard=Yes

After googling the problem I also tried:
turning on EHCI hand-off in BIOS
enable DSDT Fixes HPET0100 and fixUSB1000

    swapping out IOUSBFamily.kext and IOUSBMassStorageClass.kext from 10.8.3
disabling AppleHPET.kext as well as AppleHDA.kext (not both together).

At my wits end. So close and yet so far. Appreciate any help with this.

    Verbose Output (no EHCI hand-over):

    Verbose Output (ECHI hand-over enabled)

    • 1. Please use Defualt BIOS Settings to start.

      2. Install the OS using Clover.

      3. Do not add any other Boot Flags. The Defualt ones with the Retail Driver Flag is all you Need.

      4. I use ProTools 10 under 10.9 and higher and have no issues. What Support issues do you have? Hardware or Plugins?

      5. Please be clear about the USB Port issue(s). USB 2.0, 3.0 or both.

      • Thanks, Andrew.

        1. I can’t turn off CSM as I get an error message in the BIOS saying my GPU does not support UEFI booting. So I leave it on and turn everything to UEFI.

        2. & 3. = will do.

        4. I use HD (now “legacy” hardware) which is not officially supported beyond 10.8. Probably a moot point seeing that I am building a Hackintosh… Apparently PT 10 is fine on Mavericks so I will go with that instead. Yosemite reportedly has graphics issues and since I am a professional user this is not going to work I think (I am not running a commercial studio though).

        5. I am using USB 2.0 ports.

        • Install 10.9.5 and go from there. I dont know any real issues in 10.9.5 with the older Hardware. 10.10 there is issues.

        • OK, I am up and running on 10.9.5 About to do post install. So far so very, very painless. Is it safe to do Migration from my old System (which was a fresh install from Nov 2014)?

This is awesome. Thank you so much. I can’t wait to get it finished.

        • Best to just manualy Transfer the data.

  29. I have my system up and running and will migrate the old one once I have backed this up. One final thing I wanted to check is whether MacPro 5,1 is still the right SMBIOS for my current configuration?

    P9X79-E WS, 4930k, Mac OS 10.9.5

  30. OK, so I have one problem which is that I can’t seem to get the PCIe slots working. The GPU works, obviously, but it doesn’t matter which of the other slots I try the host card for my expansion chassis is not working and the cards aren’t seen by the system (Pro Tools HD cards in my case).

I tried with an old GT7300 (the only other PCIe card I had lying around) and it doesn’t show up in the system profiler either.

I am sorry if I am missing something obvious but I would appreciate any help with this problem. I did notice that there is nothing regarding PCIe slots in the BIOS. Not sure if this is normal or not.

    • Everything you just said is wrong.

System Profiler is cosmetic and plays no part in a PCI or PCIe card working. Also the GPU listed is not supported under Mac OS X since 10.7.5 32 Bit Boot Mode.

The BIOS has a entire menu dedicated to PCIe lanes. Please read the MB manual.

    • Hi Andrew,

you are, of course, correct. This is my first build and I was a little bit nervous. I should have just tried it and everything would have been fine. I fired up Pro Tools and it’s working. I cannot thank you enough for the help you are providing here and I have made a donation.

  31. Hi,

I just finished installation and followed the guide for my motherboard but sound device is not working. I have done step 5 from read me but still can’t get it working. My board is Asus rampage 4 extreme black edition,

  32. Do you have E5-2695 v2 SSDT? My CPU is always running at 3GHz. Is that the problem with power management? I am running Yosemite as well. Thank you.

  33. My USB 3.0 ports are not working either. I am using Asus X79-Deluxe

  34. Hey i followed through your guides but I can only boot from my Clover USB into my Mac OSX Installation. My BIOS won’t show me a entry for the Clover Boot-loader upon boot.

I have a ASRock B75 Pro 3 and NVIDIA GTX 680, i used my own DSDT and SSDT which I used in Mavericks, except that i did everything as described in your guide.

  35. Hi, I have another problem. According to CUDA-Z, my GPU is only running at PCIe 2.0 speed. I am using GTX 770 with X79-DELUXE. Thank you.

  36. Hi guys!

    I have this system:
    MSI X79 GD45
    Intel Core i7 4820K
    AMD HD 7000 series
    16GB RAM

I’ve installed Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite successfully but had issues about post installation, since ssdt for 4820k didn’t exist and mac was giving kernel panic about AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement (dark screen which says a lot of things, you would find which kext causes the problem, ends with nanoseconds etc). I created ssdt.aml as stated in another guide of RampageDev by entering -TURBO and 3900(max frequency). But for kernel panic issue I had to send an email to Akern and he helped me with that issue, many thanks!

If you have MSI X79 GD45, in the step where you install kexts install also NullCPUPowerManagement from Gigabyte kexts folder. Also I don’t recommend kext helper b7 since it was not responding to quit command and I couldn’t be sure if it installed or not. I use Kext Utility, which is so simple and informs you about every process.

Great guide great help rampagedev! Thanks!

  37. Hi,

Thanks for the great guide and tools. I have a Sabertooth X79 board and everything works except my optical digital-out audio port. While my other audio line-out port works, it would be great if I can get the optical port working.

    Any ideas?

  38. Hi,

Thanks for the great guide and tools. I have a Sabertooth X79 board and everything works except USB 3.0. I did a full clean install on a new SSD. I’ve tried to follow all your instructions.

    Can you help me?

  39. Hello Andrew,
Thank you very much for your quick answer.
I’ve tried what you say but nothing worked.
    Don’t know what to do?

  40. Thank you again for your answer Andrew,
So I’ve re-installed the standard GenericUSBXHCI and tried all kernel flags advisable by Zenith432 but nothing works, perhaps I’m too stupid! Can you help me to correct this issue please? If you want I can pay you something tell me how much?

  41. to wich email please?

  42. Sorry I founded it I’l send youmy ioreg files now

  43. Hey Andrew:

    x79 deluxe
    geforce gtx 680 classified

I was able to get everything running except even after installing the bluetooth firmware kext, the bluetooth discovery window will not “see” any bluetooth devices.

  44. Hey Andrew
i just built a new x79 platform pc iand i was wondering if you can guide me trough getting into the osx setup i have been trying for about a month mow nd really need help

what bootflags whould i type to get me to load into osx ??

    ASUS P9X79E-Ws
    INTEL i7 4930k
    Corsair Dominator Platinum 32gb 2400
    NVIDIA GTX 760
    ASUS wireless card

  45. Is the patched kext AICPUPM needed for E5-2697 v2? Will the SSDT work fine for v2?

  46. Well I will continue to use it although Stinga11 said for the v2 (Ivy Bridge) processor AICPUPM patching was not necessary? Also is the SSDT you generated compatible with V2 Ivy bridge processor? The DMG labels it as E5-2697 which could be for both sandy and ivy or just sandy bridge-E? Wouldn’t the SSDT be slightly different for these processors? I am guessing I could test that and run the tools to see if Power Management works with or without the AICPUPM.kext. It works fine with it now but if it can work without it then there would be no need for it.

    • Forget the version. Look at the SSDT code. Nothing different. Its like the OCing SSDT’s. Says 4.5 GHz but the MAX clock it supports is 4.5 but what ever the real clock speed set in the BIOS is what matters. Your way overthinking this one.

  47. hi I got my asus rampage iv black edition working with XXXXXXX yosemite the only thing is now working for me at the moment is the wifi is there is any way to fix this problem pls help me…

    • Broken install method as well as unsupported. You created the issue yourself by not installing as per are guide. Wipe the Drive. Properly install with are method and your issues will be resolved. 🙂

  48. Got an issue with patching audio, that perhaps you could help me through:

Following the instructions that comes with the Step 5 after downloading the package containing command files etc, i was told to run “audio_realtekALC-110_v1.0e.command” that followed within the folder in a zip.

When running this command, the output from Terminal after ‘completion’ didn’t look that much promising:

“Last login: Sun Sep 13 04:03:37 on ttys000
    /Users/Nico/Downloads/audio_RealtekALC-master/audio_realtekALC-110_v1.0e.command ; exit;
    Nicos-Mac-Pro:~ Nico$ /Users/Nico/Downloads/audio_RealtekALC-master/audio_realtekALC-110_v1.0e.command ; exit;

The audio_realtekALC-110 script is for personal use only. Do not distribute
the patch, any or all of the files or the resulting patched AppleHDA.kext
for any reason without permission. The audio_realtekALC-110 script is

I’ve followed all steps in post install with success but this one.

  49. Step 4 -> SSDT-1 -> E5-2620 or E5-2680 is original revision?
    not compatibility E5-2620(or E5-2680) V2 and V3?

ps. always we thank you for your kindness.

  50. Hi Andrew, just a quick question: is it possible to get the RS-232 port to work on P9X79-E WS running Mavericks 10.9.5?

  51. Happy new years ! You have help me in the past with my x79-UD5 on 10.10, just wanted to say thx and pop you small donation. I know its not much. If you had free time LOL, I am still having that sleep issue from last jan. If I use your SDST my see dose not work, but I need it also for my video card. The machine sleeps but wakes up and forgets what its doing, freezes basically . It’s a good chance its my motherboard and I may go buy the Rampage IV Extreme Black.

    Thx in advance, Cheers !

  52. “Please follow the provided DMG Read Me files included with each download for instructions on how to use”
…but I can’t see any Read Me files (X79 DMG unzipped under Windows) so where can I find this? or this is visable under OsX?
Sorry for lame question I’m newbie

  53. Hi Andrew.
Very cool work you’ve done! I’ve tried to follow your guide a few times, but I don’t succeed.
After I do Step 2 in the DMG part, my computer restarts as I’m trying to close Kext Helper b7. Also every time I try to close Kext Helper, the program gets stuck and I have to force close it.

After the weird reboot, my computer opens up without problem (booting through the USB install in to my harddrive). I then continue with your guide and when restarting the computer after section 4 I get stuck in the boot with the message:
    – missing bluetooth controller transport.

    My setup is:
    Asus P9X79 WS
    NVIDIA GT 610
    64GB ram 1600mhz

I’ve had the computer running on OSX 10.8 with a simple Unibeast install, so I guess it’s possible with 10.10 as well 🙂

Hope you have some suggestions. Thanks in advance. Jesper

    • After the kexts are installed you don’t need the USB. Its hanging on your GPU. You need to enable injection for Nvidia in the Clover Config file for your GPU.

  54. Hi Andrew
I stuck on AppleKeyStore loading error. I have used X79.dmg for post install. Solutions I found on web does’t work. Can get in to desktop only from USB.

    My setup:
    Asus X79 Sabertooth
    Nvidia 660GT
    40MB RAM

Is there a solution for this?

  55. Hey Andrew:

Got 10.11.4 running smoothly but even though I added the 4.5 overclock SSDT-1 for my 4930k, the peak speed it runs at is 3.7GHz. Did I miss something or do i have to do a manual overclock in the BIOS?

  56. Hi Andrew
First of all thank you so much for all your work I am amazed how well my system runs and performs.

    Asus Rampage IV Formula
    Intel i7-3930k
    Nvidia GTX670 2GB
    32GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical @1600
    OSX 10.9.5

I have a little issue with the auxiliary USB2 ports, the ones in the Backplate embedded to the mobo work fine, but the ones plugged to the motherboard (with the 9 pin connectors) that are serving the front of my case don’t work.
    Could be a BIOS setting?
Should I compile DSDT for my configuration?
Could you point me in the right direction?
    Thanks a lot

    • You have a IRQ issue so you would need to extract and patch the DSDT for that.

      • Hi Andrew
Thanx for the quick reply I have one question, following your guide I did extract the DSDT for my hardware. Now I am lost searching the net for a guide, but all I see are others using patches from pjalm in macials, is there a way and a guide I could follow to use and edit my virgin DSDT?
Can I use and a patch for a rampage iv extreme as it share same chipset?
        Thank you very much

        • Patch for IRQ’s is the same for all R4 boards. Only do the IRQ patch else you will have issues!

        • Thanks a lot Andrew you are a star, will report my results, and looking for a detailed how to dual cpu’s boards your blog is amazing man

  57. Hi, any chance you can include the HP Z820 SSDT in the project?
There’s a ton of these workstations being offloaded to ebay, and they are really great machines to be turned into hackintoshes, lot’s of expansion, solid all around. These boards are very similar to the ones in the dmg, X79, LGA2011.

You can find my Z820 latest bios DSDT here:

    Thanks and great job!!

    • Yes, we actually looked at the boards which can be bought very cheaply. They have non standard power connectors so a custom wiring loom would need to be made. Do you have one? Also they have a TB card that slipped by Intels embargo.

      • Andrew, yes I have one, there is a catch though, if you get the motherboard by itself it will keep warning you upon startup that the serial # doesn’t match. You have to enter serial and id numbers specific to hp z820 chassis stickers to validate them.
Don’t know any long term effects of not having them.
I believe there’s a z800 motherboard build somewhere on the net with the power connector pinout, don’t know if it’s the same for the 820’s.
It would be awesome to have support for this board.

        • Already found the pin layout… The real issue is I would need to have one in front of me to work on to get it working. What I did in one hour on the Dual CPU Build would take me 2 days via Skype and email.

  58. I understand. Wish I could help you in that way, but can barely afford one for me.
That said, I can certainly help with skype if you’re up for it.

  59. Andrew,
There is no supermicro folder under step3.
I have a x9dri-ln4f with two e5-2670(it’s not listed on step 4), can you support it?
    Thank you,

  60. Got a working install by following your guide on:

    OSX 10.11.3
    E5-2670 V1
    GTX 780 3GB
    32GB 1866
    Sata SSD

USB was a challenge, as initially it refused to work post-install. Audio is working on ALC898 but using the wrong jack plug (rear/sub). There is no SSDST for the 2670 so I left that step out. It’s displayed at ‘2.6ghz unknown’ in system info, which is annoying but not disastrous. what concerns me though, is that intel power gadget reports the CPU is constantly at 3ghz and consuming 80+watts at idle. It’s also 50+degrees(c) at idle with a 240mm AIO cooler.

    Can someone help?

  61. Hello, I am looking to upgrade my GA-UP4-X79 to El Capitan. Does your DMG post installation utility support OS X 10.11? Please let me know. Thanks!

  62. Heloo good people. I’m from Indonesia.

I have Asrock Extreme 3 with Intel Xeon E5-2609 Quad Core Quad Thread. Is it possible to run El Capitan with your guide ?

    thank you andrew kern

  63. hi to all,
my initial problem is the following.
I created the usb stick through virtualization, but strangely I can not boot.
It is not the first time I create a hackintosh, but this time is the first time on a dual socket motherboard.
I can not figure out if it is UEFI or legacy.
I recognize that the bios is legacy but I see that I can also select the UEFI mode
The snag is that starting in UEFI mode will not start and I have to make a clear CMOS
so now I’m afraid to move in this direction
someone has experience in this regard?
i ve found and read only now this 3d.
i have X9DRL-IF mother board, this model is like X9Dai…
chipset and many other features is equal…
so can i go ahead and treat my x9drl like the x9dai?
you can explain to me exactly where to find the keks for x9dai/x9drl
Obviously after downloading and installed the dmg X79 if I understand it

certainly, I must first be able to boot from the USB drive.
so kindly anyone knows exactly why can not I boot?
    I set the default bios
disabled VT-x and disabled “com port”
I do not know where to select “OTHER OS” in the menu. given that I read it affects the boot
but the fact remains that by starting from the usb does absolutely nothing, does not allow me even to place a flag such as a -v to verify.
It behaves exactly as if the USB key was empty and still boot from ‘hard drives
thank you all for the help

  64. GA-X79S-UP5-WIFI (BIOS F4)
    Intel Xeon E5-2670 sr0kx 8 Core
    EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW
    32GB RAM 1866 – G.Skill F3-1866C9Q-32GXM
    SSD OCZ 240GB

    What Works:
    USB 2.0
EVGA GTX 670 (Nvidia Web Drivers)

What Does Not Work: (I’m newbie)
    – 7 cores (still booting with cpus=1)
    – No audio

    • This is a known issue with this motherboard and cpus with more then 6 cores under Mac OS X. We personally have never got it to work with more. One thing you can do is edit VoodooTSC Kext Plist from 1 to 16 and reinstall the kext and try again.

  65. I’ve updated to Sierra on my x79-up4 / 4930k / GTX 760 setup and I have replaced the SSDT’s with the new ones in the x79 DMG, but I cannot use USB 3.0 ports. Is there a kext or other fix for this known?

  66. Hi, AKRD.
    Regards from FreakyChokra.
    I just got a Rampage 4 Extreme & a Xeon E5 2670 V1, about a week ago.
I’ll not be wrong to say, I’m not new to the scene.
However, I have followed your guide & files to the letter ‘T’, and everything is now working.
Before I posted this message, I read the last message & by that, I don’t know if all of my 8 cores or 16 threads are being used or not, but GeekBench 4 posted a multicore score of 19000 something.

My problem is just that, none of my USB3 ports work. I have used the latest GenUsbXhci version 1.2.11.

Also, I tried endless DSDT edits, one of which had a merger of same EH01 code from my previous Sabertooth Z77 motherboard DSDT.
I tried mapping the section somehow to get the USB3 Ports to be enabled. But no success.

    The boot message shows:
    “GenericUSBXHCI::CreateRootHubDevice ? Bus 14 already taken.”

    I have 4 HDDs. 1 has ElCap 10.11.5.
    Another has Sierra.
    3rd has Win 7.

All Usb3.0 work in Windows. Saying it because both the Xeon & R4E are acquired under a used condition sale.

Can you please help in shedding some light in some way?

    Freaky Chokra.
I’m there @ a lot of boards, forums, as we know for this…
It’s a humble request to you.

  68. I tried both flags (npci and cpus)but same result

  69. Andrew,
I have an Asus P9X79 Deluxe and I would put this E5-2670 CPU (not listed in section 4), you can support it?
Can you pass the SSDT file for this cpu I am not able to do so
    Thank you,

  70. I would install on my P9X79 Deluxe this processor
    Intel Xeon E5-2670 v2 ES LGA2011 10C
can you tell me if it works, and I can do the SSDT or else it takes to make it go, as I do to make it go
    Thank you

  71. Not sure if this is a known issue, but in order to get Speedstep working on my P9X79 board with 3930K i had to change the SMBIOS from MacPro6,1 to MacPro3,1.
I think this is what Rampage used to use in an older X79 DMG download.
When using the MacPro6,1 model it simply stayed at 3.2ghz and didn’t move or get into a turbo state. I tried creating my own SSDT with Piker’s utility but still nothing, though it again does work when using the Macpro3,1 definition.

Any ideas as to why that might be? I’m happy enough using the MacPro3,1 SMBIOS definition assuming i won’t hit any problems.

    • Ok, just an update to my previous problem which is now solved. Although the supplied SSDT didn’t seem to work, i was in the end able to create a working SSDT for the Macpro6,1 SMBIOS using Pikers’s ssdtPRGen utility.

For those that need to do this, you need to use the -c 1 and -w 3 arguments when using it in order to get it working correctly. Also, the -w argument is for some reason not in the latest Beta, so you need to go back to the old master version.

      • Hi spike, thank you very much for the heads up. I am building my second Hack with the exact same CPU/MoBo combo and am having the same problem. Where did you find the non-beta version version of the ssdtPRGen utility?

  72. No worries and glad to help. Here’s the link…

  73. sorry if I am being a n00b but where do you add the -c 1 and -w 3 arguments in the sh script?

    • OK, it is obvious: You just type it into the terminal when launching the script. I still get warnings about the board ID not matching in SMBIOS and system type being set improperly (1 instead of 2).

      • Yep, run it as this, don’t forget the spaces between the c and 1 argument etc. -c 0 -w 0 -turbo 4200

Set your turbo to whatever overclock you may have, else you can leave that out.
And yes, i think mine complained about board id as well, but it shouldn’t be a problem. Don’t forget to rename the SSDT to SSDT-1 if you already have one in the Clover folder, probably the Rampage SSDT.

Let me know how you get on.

        • I am getting nowhere, unfortunately. Also, my CPU is listed as “Unknown Processor”. I don’t know if this is related to the PM problem or not. Was all you did to generate a new SSDT-1 with the settings -c 1 and -w 3? I replaced the existing SSDT-1 in the patched folder in EFI/Clover/ACPI but it made no difference.

  74. Hmm, ok… so, you installed everything exactly as per the RampageDev X79 instructions? Your processor should be recognised. Does it show ok in system properties?!

And yes, that is all you need to do – generate the SSDT, rename from SSDT to SSDT-1 if need be (you will have to if you’re using the X79 install from this site) and away you go.

I used the -c 0 -w 0 -turbo 4200 as i have a mild overclock running, but you shouldn’t need to add the turbo argument if it picks up the processor model.

    • I forgot to check about AppeInteCPUManagement.kext which the OS Updater had overwritten. I loaded the patched one from the X79 DMG and now everything is running fine. Thank you very much for your time and help, spike!

  75. in my computer Asus P9x79 Deluxe I’m trying a more xeon E5-2670v2 an Intel processor but I know I should reboot in KP help

  76. Hi guys, I have this strange motherboard from a Lenovo Erazer X700 with a E5-2670 and it works….(!!) but no turbo boost. 🙂
    I tried
    / -p E5-2670
    / -TURBO 3300
    / -c 1 E5-2670

but CPU never goes above 2.6
also tried Spike’s above -c 0 -w 0 but it aborts as “Unknown processor model”

the DSDT is custom made from a great guy at insanelymac , could this need fixing or this CPU is awkward? (I noticed that in your x79.dmg e5-2670 is skipped…)

  77. So my rig is an Gigabyte X79-UD3 with i7-3820 and a GTX980.

I’ve followed all of the instructions exactly in this guide. However, after post installation, I’m getting stuck at:

    Kernis version:
    Darwin Kernel Version 16.4.0: blahblah
    Kernel UUID: blahblah
    Kernel slide: blahblah
    kernel text base: blahblah
    _HIB text base: blahblah
    System model name: MacPro6,1

    System uptime in nanoseconds: 1038819665

I saw someone above got stuck with almost something similar (at the system uptime in nanoseconds) and he just had to update is BIOS to get it to work. However, I’m on the latest BIOS for my mobo (F20 from 2014/03/20). Does anyone have any suggestion? Much appreciation in advance!

  78. z620 2x 2660 v1 everything except turbo cpu still at 2.2
    any suggestions are very appreciate

  79. I have the GA-X79-UD3 motherboard and with … alone it just shows a x where the apple logo would be…. i tried your guide and files and now i get the apple logo it loads the bar then goes to a grew screen with the mouse pointer then back to the black screen with the loading bar and freezes

i setup my bios right not sure what else it can be if you can help me please send me email @ thanks

im trying to get sierra installed

  80. Hi Andrew and fellow hackintoshers,

I’m working with a GA-X79-UP4 (Bios F7) and an I7 3820 here. With Sierra 10.12.4 I’m getting a panic relating to AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext at boot. If I replace the kext from the X79 image (216.0.0) with the current kext from the default Sierra 10.12.4 install (219.0.0), it boots fine, but I have no power management and the CPU runs at full bore. I’ve went back over the guide and reinstalled, several times, thinking I might have missed something or made a mistake, but I’m now at a loss. Any ideas?

  81. Hi,this web place has been a great help!! so far I managed to install Sierra on a MSI X79a-GD65 8D + i7-3930k using x79.dmg step by step. i had to use of DSDT from MSI X79-GD45 which is included.
all seems fine except: -Turbo boost that is not working, -USB3 only works if I plug something in before boot, – CPU is always working on at 3.2. if I use NullCPUpower kext then c states kick in.
I really need to have this system stable
any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
